Research

My primary research interests are in the areas of the self, social rejection, and relationships.

More specifically, I am interested in the clarity and stability of the self-concept; how do people form their identities and what types of situations might lead them to expand or modify their sense of who they are? Additionally, I study the positive and negative consequences of relationships; what beneficial effects do others have on us and what happens when the need to belong is thwarted?
